About — Protocol Grip Trainer

Grip Stronger.
Live Longer.

Protocol Grip Trainer was born in 2023 when Rich McClellan — a lifelong engineer — set out to build the device that didn't exist: a smart grip trainer that connects to your phone and actually guides your training.

The Problem

Rich wanted to follow the science-backed 12-minute routine clinically shown to lower blood pressure — but the right product didn't exist. So he built it himself.

The Insight

Grip strength isn't just for athletes. Research links it directly to longevity, cardiovascular health, and overall wellness as we age. The science demanded a better tool.

"When my grandfather initially showed me the prototypes he was working on, I was immediately intrigued. I always knew how important grip strength was in the gym — but I didn't realize how important it was for health as people got older."

— Wayne McClellan, Founder & CEO

Max Strength Test

The physical device connects to your phone via Bluetooth and transmits live force data — every pound you squeeze, captured in real time.

Squeeze as hard as you can and we'll establish your baseline. That number drives everything else in the app.

Analyze Your Results

After each test, your score is placed in the context of your age group and gender — so you can see exactly where you stand and set meaningful goals for improvement.

Are you stronger than 84% of women in your age group? You'll know it. And next month, you can aim higher.
