Grip & High Blood Pressure
Doing Isometric Grip Training is one of the best proven ways to lower blood pressure without taking medication. Take a look at Table 15 (below) from the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association's Executive Summary: Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults.
The table outlines a variety of Nonpharmacological Interventions. Second from the bottom of the table is the recommmended isometric grip training routine.

Strikingly, according the AHA & ACC, the recommended isometric resistance intervention is more effective than dynamic resistance training (Weightlifting), moderating alcohol consumption or increasing potassium. It is also comparable to a variety of other interventions.
The recommended routine is a specific hand grip isometric resistance routine that has been tested and proven in numerous trials. The recommended routine is as follows: hold 30%-40% of your maximum strength for 2 sets of 2 minutes with a 1 minute rest between sets, completed in each hand. This is to be performed 3 times a week and has been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure over 8-10 weeks.
With Protocol Grip Trainer, you can perform this routine in the easiest, most effective, and entertaining way possible. We measure your maximum grip strength so that we can calculate the 30% of your maximum strength precisely, and then guide you through the routine with both visual cues and voice prompts. This routine can be easily completed while watching tv in the evening, or sitting at your desk at work.
